when visiting the Michinoku Trail, I have 3 main memories - the beautiful nature, the kind, welcoming, helpful and friendly people - and the destruction of the Tsunami and the reconstruction efforts. Few places symbolise the past, present and future as well as this lone pine tree. Its a memorial to the past in an area completely transformed.
