Our New Name: Michinoku Coastal Trail Association
As of August 8, 2026, marking the ninth anniversary of our establishment, our organization has changed its name to Michinoku Coastal Trail Association (MCTA).
Many organizations that manage long distance trails around the world include the name of the trail they manage in their organization’s name. We have therefore decided to incorporate “Michinoku Coastal Trail” into our organization’s name as well.
This name change reflects our commitment to carrying the Michinoku Coastal Trail and the irreplaceable regional resources along the trail, including their rich history, culture, and natural environment, into the future and passing them on to the next generation. At the same time, we hope to share their value more widely, both in Japan and internationally, and further strengthen our connections with diverse people, communities, and organizations involved with the trail.
Although our organization’s name has changed, our mission remains the same.
In keeping with the principles of the Michinoku Coastal Trail Charter, which calls for us to “welcome everyone who loves walking and nurture the trail together,” we will continue working closely with government agencies, local communities, hikers, and all those involved with the trail. Together, we will strive to ensure the proper maintenance and management of the Michinoku Coastal Trail, protect its natural environment, and share its many attractions with people in Japan and around the world.
Together with everyone who loves the Michinoku Coastal Trail, we will continue to carry this trail forward into the future.
We sincerely appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
