I joined the mountaineering club in high school simply because it offered opportunities to go skiing and visit hot springs—but I actually preferred going downhill more than climbing. In college, I became obsessed with scuba diving and drifted away from land-based activities, but I eventually caught the camping bug as it became a popular trend. It was during this time that I discovered the Michinoku Coastal Trail at the Natori Trail Center and became fascinated by the charm of walking journeys.
