Mayuko Sakamoto
Born in Sanriku-cho, Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture.
I spent nearly 20 years in the Kanto region for college and work, but the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami prompted me to reevaluate my life.
Ever since I moved back to my hometown with my two sons in 2015, I’ve been constantly asking myself what it means for the children living here to have a “hometown they can be proud of.”
I was involved with the Michinoku Coastal Trail even before the entire route opened, back when I worked at Active Ranger, and I feel it holds limitless potential.As the newly appointed “Community Liaison,” I’m eager to work tirelessly to bring vitality and smiles to the people living along the trail.
The beautiful Tohoku and Sanriku regions, passed down to us by our ancestors, will soon become a destination for many people thanks to the Michinoku Coastal Trail—and the day when Tohoku and Sanriku are known worldwide is not far off!
