Winter along the MCT is relatively warm and has less snow accumulation and snowfall compared to inland areas. See attachment 5 for details about weather along the MCT. However, both in towns and in natural areas, sometimes fallen snow can remain unmelted in spots that don’t get much sunlight, so in some cases ice cleats or other anti-slip goods would be useful. Light crampons will help keep you safe in natural areas.

The sun also sets earlier during the winter, so plan your hikes with extra leeway so you know you’ll be able to finish before it gets dark. Note also that many outdoor toilets and water faucets are shut off and campgrounds are closed during the winter to prevent freezing.
