Maps/Equipment

Q1. What kind of equipment do I need?

While the MCT course doe go mainly go along the coastline, it also passes through a wide variety of areas and surfaces, including mountainous areas, seaside cliffs, sandy beaches, paved roads, and towns. Use information about the route you’re walking and how long you plan to hike to prepare your clothes and equipment.

Once you have gathered information about what conditions to expect on your hike, use your favorite hiking resource (search for keywords like “trail hiking gear list”) to decide what clothing and other items you need to bring.

Ministry of the Environment, “How to Hike on Trails”: https://tohoku.env.go.jp/mct/guide/preparation.html

If you’re considering hiking a long distance or longer period of time and read Japanese, “Long Distance Hiking” (by Shin Hasegawa and published by Trails, Inc.) is a good resource.
