Toyoshi Sasaki
Born in Iwate Prefecture in 1957.
Raised in Iwate, he pursued a career in outdoor and adventure education, influenced by the various experiences with nature he had during his childhood and youth.
Interest in environmental issues grew following the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1996, he used his own funds to open the Kurikoma Kogen Nature School, where he has implemented educational programs designed to foster "life skills" in young people.
He is dedicated to cultivating the people and society needed to create a rich, sustainable lifestyle based on living in harmony with nature and embracing an agrarian way of life.
He lost his operational base in the 2008 Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake. Following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, he quickly established a volunteer center to lead relief efforts and participated in the "Michinoku Coastal Trail" project—a reconstruction initiative led by the Ministry of the Environment.
Currently, he conducts research on the social role of nature-based activities and environmental education at Aomori University’s Faculty of Comprehensive Management, while also promoting the global SDGs initiative both within and outside the university.
