As part of our initiatives this fiscal year as a Destination Management Organization (DMO), Ofunato Regional Strategy is conducting a research project under the Japan Tourism Agency’s “FY2026 Project for Promoting Environment Improvement to Enhance Local Tourism Resources (Survey Project on Tourism Utilization of Local Resources).”
This project focuses on the central region of Sanriku Fukko National Park, specifically conducting research on establishing tourism bases for international visitors and other travelers utilizing the Michinoku Coastal Trail, cycle tourism, and other local resources.
Through this project, we aim to re-evaluate the tourism resources of Ofunato City and Rikuzentakata City, clarify the requirements for their effective utilization (including functional improvements), and formulate policies toward building a sustainable visitor foundation. We are also bringing together relevant stakeholders to address current challenges and establish a framework for future initiatives.
The data gathered from your responses will serve as a vital foundation for this project. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
